Have you ever been involved in a fitness challenge? There are so many challenges available, each with different time frames and each promising different results.
At Titan Fitness we, like other gyms are regularly offering new challenges for our members, but we thought rather than just focusing on them, why not put the staff to the challenge.
Being faced with something that requires great mental and physical effort
Overcoming challenging situations provide us with a story we can use to empower, motivate and inspire others. Here are a few ways to prepare yourself for a challenge.
Goals – You must first have a clear direction, an intention to move towards, and it must come from within. It is important to understand your why, what purpose is this challenge serving in your life?
Reflection – Keep track of everything. From your training sessions, your diet, your moods you’re your sleeping patterns. Having a record of your journey allows reflection and insight into your behaviours. From this we have a means of assessing just how far we have come, and other opportunities for improvement.
Effort – You’ve heard the saying nothing worth having comes easy? This is where effort comes into play. Creating change requires an exchange of energy; the greater the effort, the greater the flow of energy.
Accountability – Know that when starting a training routine you will have off days, slow days, and low days. You can’t rely on others to get you through, but you can use them to push harder, to motivate you, to give you the support you need.
Accountability is learning to follow through on the things you say you’re going to do.
Timeframe – Just like any goal, it’s important to set a defined timeframe. Don’t focus on just the overall goal, break it down into weekly goals and daily goals. This helps to not become overwhelmed by far you still have to go, and allows you to reward yourself each time you overcome something challenging along the way.
By the staff doing this challenge we can demonstrate what we’re capable of achieving and ways that we can overcome personal struggles. More importantly, it allows us to show that we all have obstacles to overcome, and that taking charge of your physical health does not come without commitment.
“I’m doing this challenge because it’s helping me to find the motivation to train; after a long day at work I’d rather go home to bed than walking on the Stair Master. Doing this challenge with my colleagues and friends means that even on my worst days they are there to support me and ensure I train before going home.
I struggle to find the confidence to train alone, but being involved in a team challenge means that I’m surrounded by people who are willing to motivate, support and inspire me.”
“I’m doing this challenge for the team, but also for myself. I want to test myself to be better, mentally and physically by incorporating discipline and structure into my lifestyle. It’s an added bonus that the rest of my team is on this journey with me. It helps as they are supporting and motivating me.
I struggle sticking to a strict diet, and holding myself accountable for the foods I eat without lying to myself.”
Any challenge we face in life, allows us to truly see and know ourselves at any given point in time. It allows us to consciously assess where we are, where we want to be, and the space that exists between those two places. Within that gap lies only opportunity, this is your challenge.
“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready.
The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back.”
